Dead by Daylight is a game built on information asymmetry. Survivors don't know where the killer is. The killer doesn't know where all survivors are hiding. ESP — extra sensory perception — eliminates that uncertainty entirely, making it the most impactful cheat feature in DBD by a wide margin.
But ESP in DBD works very differently depending on whether you're playing survivor or killer. This guide covers everything: what each side sees, how it works technically, and how to use it without getting caught.
What Is ESP in Dead by Daylight?
ESP (also called wallhack) is a cheat feature that reveals the location of players, objects, and game elements through walls and obstacles. In Dead by Daylight, this means seeing the killer through every wall on the map as a survivor, or tracking all four survivors simultaneously as a killer.
Unlike aimbot which changes how you fight, ESP changes how you think and decide. You always know what's happening everywhere on the map. In an asymmetric horror game where information is the most valuable resource, this advantage is enormous.
Survivor ESP — What You Can See
Playing survivor with ESP transforms DBD from a tense hide-and-seek game into a strategic puzzle where you always have the answer key:
Killer Tracking
- Killer position & distance — see exactly where the killer is at all times, through every wall and obstacle on the map
- Killer direction indicator — know which way the killer is facing and moving
- Chase status — see if the killer is chasing another survivor, giving you safe time to do generators
Generator Intelligence
- Generator locations — see all generators through walls, even on maps you don't know well
- Generator progress — see how far along each generator is without being there
- Generator being worked on — see which generators other survivors are repairing
Map Objectives
- Exit gate locations — know exactly where both gates are before they're powered
- Hatch location — see the hatch position before it opens, giving you a massive advantage in endgame
- Totem locations — find and cleanse hex totems immediately instead of searching blindly
- Chest & item locations — loot efficiently without wasting time exploring
Teammate Awareness
- Survivor positions — see where all teammates are at all times
- Hook states — know which survivors are hooked and their hook stage
- Health states — see if teammates are injured, dying, or healthy
Killer ESP — What You Can See
Killer ESP turns every match into an unlosable game. When you know where all four survivors are at all times, no one can hide:
Survivor Tracking
- All survivor positions — see all four survivors through walls, at all times, regardless of perks like Iron Will or Distortion
- Survivor health states — know who's injured, who's healthy, who's one hit from dying
- Survivor actions — see who's repairing, healing, cleansing, or crouching
Strategic Information
- Generator progress — see which generators are being worked on and their completion percentage
- Pallet locations — see all pallets on the map, including which ones have been used
- Hatch location — never lose endgame hatch standoffs again
Survivor ESP vs Killer ESP — Feature Comparison
| Feature | Survivor ESP | Killer ESP |
|---|---|---|
| See killer/survivors | Killer always visible | All 4 survivors visible |
| Generator progress | Yes | Yes |
| Hatch location | Yes | Yes |
| Totem locations | Yes | Yes |
| Pallet tracking | Limited | Full pallet ESP |
| Hook stages | Yes | Yes |
| Impact on gameplay | Defensive — avoid killer, optimize gen time | Offensive — find and pressure survivors efficiently |
How DBD ESP Works Technically
Understanding how ESP works helps you understand why some approaches are safer than others:
Memory Reading
DBD stores the position of every entity (players, objects, generators) in memory. ESP software reads these memory addresses and extracts the X, Y, Z coordinates of everything on the map. This is done externally — the cheat doesn't modify the game's memory, it only reads it.
Overlay Rendering
The coordinates are then rendered as an overlay on top of the game window. You see boxes, names, distance indicators, and health bars drawn on a transparent layer above DBD. The game itself is never modified — the overlay is a separate process.
External vs Internal Approach
This is the critical safety distinction:
- External ESP (what TATEWARE uses) — reads memory from outside the game process and renders an overlay. Never touches the game files or injects code. Much harder for EAC to detect because there's no modification to the game.
- Internal ESP — injects code directly into the DBD process to render ESP within the game's own rendering pipeline. Higher performance, but EAC can detect the injection. Much riskier in 2026.
External ESP never injects into the game process, never modifies game files, and never hooks game functions. EAC has to detect a separate process reading memory — which is significantly harder than detecting injected code inside the game itself.
Why ESP Is the #1 DBD Cheat Feature
In most FPS games, aimbot is king. In DBD, ESP is the undisputed most valuable feature. Here's why:
- DBD is built on hidden information — the entire game loop depends on survivors not knowing where the killer is and vice versa. ESP removes this core mechanic entirely.
- No mechanical skill needed — unlike aimbot which makes you aim better, ESP makes you play smarter. Your decisions become perfect because you have perfect information.
- Impossible to prove from gameplay alone — a survivor who always avoids the killer could just be "good at reading the game." ESP doesn't create the obvious snap-aiming that aimbot does.
- Works for both sides equally well — whether you main survivor or killer, ESP gives you a massive advantage that transforms every match.
Using ESP Without Getting Reported
ESP is invisible to other players — they can't see your overlay. But experienced DBD players will notice patterns if you're careless:
Do's
- Pretend to search — when you know where the hatch or a totem is, don't run straight to it. Wander slightly off-path, check corners, look around. Then "find" it.
- React to heartbeat, not ESP — as survivor, start running when the heartbeat starts, not 10 seconds before the killer arrives. Use ESP for planning, not instant reaction.
- Lose sometimes — don't escape every single match. Throw a game occasionally. A 70% escape rate looks skilled. A 95% rate looks suspicious.
- Use the killer's perspective — as killer, patrol generators naturally. Walk toward survivors as if you heard or saw something, not as if you have GPS tracking.
Don'ts
- Don't find the hatch instantly every game — this is the #1 way DBD ESP users get reported. If you're the last survivor and sprint directly to the hatch within seconds, everyone notices.
- Don't pre-dodge every killer swing — you know the attack is coming, but reacting to things you can't see is obvious.
- Don't always know where Hex totems are — if you cleanse Ruin within 30 seconds of every match, killers will suspect something.
If you always find the hatch instantly, always avoid the killer perfectly, and always cleanse hex totems in seconds — players WILL report you. Use ESP for strategic advantage, not obvious exploitation.
ESP + Other Features
ESP pairs extremely well with other DBD cheat features available in TATE BY DAYLIGHT:
- ESP + Speed hack (subtle) — know exactly where to go and get there 5-10% faster. Massive time savings on generator completion.
- ESP + Auto wiggle — never miss a wiggle when picked up. Combined with knowing when to stay hidden, this makes you extremely hard to sacrifice.
- ESP + Perk display — see what perks the killer is running before the match starts. Combined with position ESP, you have complete information superiority.
